Learning is rejuvenatingI'm back in school. Today is the first day of actual teaching. As I was having my session in physical exercise changed to a self monitored weekly swimming, a girl beside me asked the instructor: "Doesn't one have to be very old for that?" The teacher said: "Now, what was that?" and looked apologizingly at me. I grinned and said: "I'm forty." Then the teacher answered the girl: "You have to be older than 22."I'm almost double that age. I must look older than 22 because I was not asked about me age. Posted by Olof I. Davidsdottir 11:05 . . .
Home, sweet homeWe get the apartment! The sellers have withdrawn the reservation and the paperwork should be completed in two weeks. This is wonderful news.(Trapeze, if you drop by, please send me an e-mail so that I have your address again. My own computer is packed away so I don't have my e-mail address book.) Posted by Olof I. DaydreamingWe've handed the apartment over to the new owners, our things are in storage and we're staying at mum's. No need to get into much detail about that.I can see the place we want to buy from the kitchen window at my parent's place. It is located beside the only serious park in Reykjavik. We still have to wait for another week before we know for sure if the owners are going to sell it to us. I really want this place. All I can think of is curtains, furniture placements and having a cup of tea out on the balcony. It's fun to think about such things. It diverts my attention away from tension and worries. You've got to have a dream. If you don't have a dreamthen how're you gonna have a dream come true? Posted by Olof I. Davidsdottir 23:09 . . .
Dancing queens - whose domain? An owner of one of the strip bars decided to move the private dancers to a branch in a neighbouring town. A member of the town council there has proposed that the council bans private dancing. The second largest town in Iceland doesn't allow private dancing in stip bars. They have also made strict rules for strip shows. The distance between dancers and audience must be at least 4 meters and the dancers may not mingle with the guests. The purpose of such restrictions is to make soliciting more difficult. On the other hand, I think those restrictions make the hunting game more exiting for the buyers. I want to see a law which makes it illegal to buy the service of prostitues. I don't want to make criminals out of prostitues by making soliciting illegal.I think the buyers of such entertainment will have to turn back to the good old posters. As long as they have them hanging on the walls of their homes only, no one would mind, exept their wifes perhaps. Posted by Olof I. Davidsdottir 09:59 . . .
AnniversaryToday are exactly 24 years since I turned to faith. My life didn't change that day, neither did I. My destiny did. And slowly I have turned more and more towards that direction. Posted by Olof I. Davidsdottir 19:11 . . .
Who's language?English is not my native language. However, I find it interesting to observe how people of english speaking origin use their language.I read in someone's blog about a lady who has an amputated leg. It looks like the poor woman is carrying the decaying limb around with her. I wonder if the surgeon asked after the amputation: "Paper or plasic?" Posted by Olof I. Davidsdottir 09:03 . . .
Cinderella's shoeA TV preacher said that women are not to wear high heels. The reasoning is that as it distorts the body posture it makes them walk funny. That draws men’s attention to them in a sensual way. That kind of attention is reserved for a woman’s husband. If a woman wants to wear high heels she may do so only to please her husband within the confinement of her home.I wonder if a woman may walk barefoot on her toes in public. The Bible doesn’t say much about shoes. It mentiones shoelaces. There is also an account where a person is told to take the shoes off. Only, it doesn’t say: “Take off thine high heeled shoes.”It’s amazing how much length some men can go in trying to control women’s lifes. Why are they so timid of women? They seem to be particularly worried about women’s sexuality. Does it force them to face their own dark side? This is definitely a control issue. I wonder if the issue is not about controlling women but about men’s fear of loosing control of themselves. If so, then men are making women responsible for men’s behaviour. That’s an old story which repeats itself over and over again. It started in Eden: “She made me.” Posted by Olof I. Davidsdottir 14:27 . . .

Why not women? The city authorities of Reykjavik have banned private dances in strip bars. The owners of such places don't complain much now that the ban has been activated. Yes, there is some loss of income but that does not cause much financial difficulties as foreign visitors buy a lot of Champagne for the girls. When they were fighting against the ban they said it would restrict constitutional right of artistic expression. While I agree about the freedom of speech, I don't have full freedom in how and where I express my opinions. I may stand infront of an official building, wave banners with slogans and use my voice. However, I may not spray paint my slogan on the wall of that building. That is vandalism, punishable by law. So, does the law contradict itself? Generally, not. But lawyers of criminals are good at finding gaps that let the offender off the hook.Freedom is so fragile that it has to be protected with rules. Freedom is so costly that it has to be defended against people who abuse it for their own gain at the expense of the well-being of others. These "girls" are human beings, women. Calling them "girls" depersonalizes them and gives those men an excuse to toy with them. For girls just wanna have fun. Who's fun is it, really? Posted by Olof I. Davidsdottir 14:46 . . .
Empty spacesNow that I can write as much as I like, I'm blank.I spent an hour early this morning writing down my dreams in the night. It filled two pages. When I woke up I remembered I had dreamt but couldn't remember what. As I came out of the bedroom I saw an object which was in one of the dreams and, voila! I didn't dare wait and sat right down to write. Keeping a dream journal is a lot of work. I've just changed over to writing my dreams in present tense instead of past tense. It's kind of like going fresh through the dream again. I dream a lot about cars these days (nights, actually!). Posted by Olof I. Davidsdottir 11:34 . . .
