Why not women?The city authorities of Reykjavik have banned private dances in strip bars. The owners of such places don't complain much now that the ban has been activated. Yes, there is some loss of income but that does not cause much financial difficulties as foreign visitors buy a lot of Champagne for the girls. When they were fighting against the ban they said it would restrict constitutional right of artistic expression.While I agree about the freedom of speech, I don't have full freedom in how and where I express my opinions. I may stand infront of an official building, wave banners with slogans and use my voice. However, I may not spray paint my slogan on the wall of that building. That is vandalism, punishable by law. So, does the law contradict itself? Generally, not. But lawyers of criminals are good at finding gaps that let the offender off the hook.Freedom is so fragile that it has to be protected with rules. Freedom is so costly that it has to be defended against people who abuse it for their own gain at the expense of the well-being of others.These "girls" are human beings, women.
