"What's it with the silver lining?"

This is the title of my January quilt page, now completed.

There are symbols in the quilt: keys, clouds and stars. As I said before, the keys were in my dreams. A cloud represents my bed, duvet and pillows. And there are a number of stars there as well.

Keys are a symbol of strength, as a solution or a giving access to one's true identity. Or that's what
Myths-Dreams-Symbols says!

The cloud is an interesting symbol, appearing in many myths and religious literature. Often relating to epiphany or apotheosis - revelation of the divine - it is well fitting for all the thoughts I entertained while being ill.

Stars can by a symbol of guidance or making the most of what one has, which was probably what I did while in bed - resting!

Journal Quilt Project 2004

I am participating in the "
Journal Quilt Project 2004".

Each month from January to September I will make a quilted page for my journal, nine alltogether . Four of those will be hung up at the International quilt festival in Houston, Texas in the United States of America in October next.

The Quiltpages of the 2003 project can be viewed at QuiltArt, which is "the Internet's largest mailing list for contemporary art quilters... as a means for those interested in innovative, contemporary art quilting to share, learn and grow."

I intend to blog about my experience during this process. No images will be displayed though until after the Houston show.

As for my January page, it is ready to be quilted and embellished. This will be my first attempt to embellish a quilt. The subject is a recurring symbol in my dreams in January, keys. As I got ill just before Christmas and spent all of January in bed, an element representing my bed will be included in the piece.

I intend to work all the pages following the colour wheel counterclockwise, starting with violet in the background for January.
