The Hedinsfjordur road tunnel.

In the years 2008 - 2010 I was working as a carpenter, foreman and, also doing some covering work and various other jobs at the company's Háfell and and Vatnsklæðningar ( VKC ) in the Hedinsfjordur road tunnel project,

This project, connects these two towns Ólafsfjörður and Siglufjörður with two tunnels 3.4 km at the Siglufjördur side and 6,7 km at Olafsfjördur side and three road parts total 16 km.

Four concrete tubes from 75 to 145 meters was made.

The the Czech company Metrostav was making the tunnel work drilling and blasting.

The old road between this two town's is a 62 km mountain road that was always blocked over the winter time and made the distances between these two places up to 230 km at the wintertime so 16 km is a quite different from these distances. Click here to see the location on Google maps.

A lot of unexpected leaking water in the Ólafsfjörður side tunnel made all this work harder and delayed the work considerably, but the workers got over this and completed the work and had certainly reason to be proud of.
