Agnar
started his music studies 6 years old. He first studied
organ and later
classical piano. At 16 Agnar started his jazz studies in
the FIH school of music in Reykjavik where he graduated five
years later with honors. Then he moved to Holland and finished
a degree
in jazzperformance and teaching in 1999 from the Conservatory
of Amsterdam. There he got in contact with jazzpianist Larry
Goldings who invited
him to take lessons in New York. Agnar moved to New York in
2000 where he took lessons from Larry and other local pianists.
Agnar
got to
know many well known jazz musicians in New York and that led
to his debut cd titled 01 where he plays with drummer Bill Stewart
and bassplayer Ben Street. The cd was nominated for the Icelandic
music avards 2001. Since then Agnar has made in collaboration with
other musicians two cds. One titled Tónn í tómið wich
is a collaboration with pianist Ástvaldur Traustason and the
other Fals, with B3 trio where he plays a hammond organ
in a traditional organ trio setting. Fals was
nominated for four awards at the Icelandic music awards 2003.
Agnar
has been working as a musician since he was 17 years old. He has
played concerts in Iceland and internationally. He
was the pianist of the Reykjavik
Big band for many years. Currently Agnar is active as a jazzpianist and a
teacher at the FIH school of music in Reykjavik. |
