Lenápe - location
Lenni Lenape, Delaware

Possible location of Lenápe and other Algonquian nations c. 700-1000 AD

The Lenápe homeland c. 1600 AD

= Algonquian
= Iroquoian
= Muskhogean
= Siouan

The Lenápe language was concentrated mainly along the middle part of the Delaware Valley in the 1600s when they first encountered Europeans. It is possible that before that time period speakers of Lenápe lived further to the northwest, perhaps along the southern shore of Lake Ontario. Their arrival on the Atlantic coast was probably caused by the expansion of the Iroquoians that also pressured the Renápe speakers further east.
