Friendship Tapestry in Nordic Needle Newsletter

On 22 of November, 2004 an article about Friendship Tapestry appeared in the Nordic Needle newsletter. Want to have a look?  click here

December 2004
The Friendship Tapestry project is giving us so much. We feel the connection with people from many different countries around the world. We have had mails from people in many countries:  from Perth Australia, Auckland New Zealand, Yukon Territories in Canada, Rio, in Brazil, France, The Netherlands, England and Iceland and from; Indiana, Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, Oregon, Illinois, North Dakoda and more in the USA. It is so precious to see the positive response we have gotten. I hear of women getting together at each others homes or through the internet, to work on pieces to send us for the Tapestry. That is such a lovely feeling and a true friendship at work. It will be so interesting to recieve the pieces in the New Year. To see all the different kind of needlework, women do around the world. Next Year, will be a year to remember.

Happy New Year, everyone! Now we are starting our “Friendship tapestry Year”.The first piece for the Friendship Tapestry arrived today! It is from Frances Caple, from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. A wonderfull heart stitched on a tweed fabric with stitches on. When I opened the envelope I felt the wonderful scent of lavender. The heart is filled with lavender! Now lavender will always remind me of The Friendship Tapestry and my excitement when the first piece arrived.

You can see on the photo how excited I (Rags) am, sitting at my kitchen table and opening the first envelope. We have had so many visits on our website (the counter broke just after Christmas so the numbers on the counter now are new) and so many e-mails from you all, dear friends. If you look at the “letters and comments” page, you see we have added more letters and some website links, to our friends. Don´t hesitate to write, we love to hear from you!If anyone is thinking about coming to Iceland this summer, please let me know. Maybe we can meet and you could maybe help assemble the tapestry.Tell your friends about this adventure of ours and we can together make this a real World Tapestry of Friendship!

February 20th 2005

We receive new pieces almost daily. It is so wonderful to open the mail and see new beautiful pieces of friendship, almost everyday. Each and everyone is unique but together, they show the harmony of individuals coming together in their own power. Thus making the Friendship Tapestry, a symbol of a world of powerful friendship. We all want to live in peace and harmony, here we show that we can do that, without being the same. We need diversity to be really in harmony. If we all made the same kind of pieces, it would not be interesting at all. The variety makes it so much more beautiful.

The 19 pieces that we have received

March

As you can see on the page “the pieces”, we have received so many beautiful pieces for the Friendship Tapestry. And still are many more to come that we know off, and even more we have no idea of now! The Friendship Tapestry is a token of friendship among nations as well as a display of samples of the variety of needlework done around the globe. I urge you to look at the letters the women have sent. They are so precious and show so much friendship and love.

We know that the word about the Friendship Tapestry is still spreading around and so as not to close the doors on future friends, we have decided to delay the final date until May 31st 2005. So there is still time to tell your friends about the project.

I have noticed that the time it takes for the pieces to travel to Iceland, is very unpredictable. I have received pieces that only took three days from the USA, but it has also taken six weeks! So don´t worry if you don´t see your piece on the website soon after you send it. I would also like to point out that if you send an e-mail address with the piece, I can let you know as soon as it arrives. It sometimes takes us a little longer to add the scanned pieces to the website.

Preparations for displaying the finished tapestry, both here in Iceland and other countries, have begun. We will update this page as things move along. If you have any ideas or if you feel you can help with the displaying of the tapestry, please let us know through e-mail: friendshiptapestry@internet.is

Many of you know that Roz and Sue at Nordic Needle print updates of the Friendship Tapestry almost every week in their newsletter. For those of you that have not yet got to know these wonderful friends of ours, look them up at: www.nordicneedle.com and on the right you find the latest both “sales newsletter” and “features newsletter”. The older ones are on the left.

On March 15, there was an interview in the Icleandic newspaper Morgunblađiđ, about the Friendship Tapestry. Aside from the main article inside the paper there was a little word on the front page as well, wich made me very happy, since newspapers talk mostly about war and distasters on the front page! But there was this little picture and the words: “Tapestry of Worldpeace”.

I added a picture of the article from Morgunblađiđ, to show you. The journalist Kristín Heiđa says: “In the world of war and dispersion, it is worth while to think of peace and love.” That is what we do when we think of friends and work for friendship among people, without any borders.

Many of you have asked and worried about your work taking time to arrive in Iceland. It has taken from three days to six weeks for the pieces to travel to Iceland. But they have all arrived safely in the end! Like Marieta from South Africa says: " ...I sincerely hope it is still travelling around the world collecting some more pieces for your tapestry." !! (see letters)   see her work that arrived safely after a long travel, in pieces 101 -
