August 1st

Pieces are still coming in and I say: keep them coming!  It would be great to have a huge tapestry of friendship, made with your beautiful needlework, to show when we really start travelling. We are now planning and working on the next steps.

Today we have 219 pieces from 23 countries in five continents! And from many states and cities in each country.  The Friendship Tapestry is now almost 5,5 meters (16 feet) long!  and growing...

Of course there are many countries not participating yet but we keep hoping they will come and join us, as soon as they hear about us. We are only in our first year and just starting on our adventure of International Friendship through needlework.

August 4th
We had a lovely visit last Monday. When Sandy (piece nr. 27) and her husband Bob Haechrel from Oregon stopped by on their way to Norway.

It was really  nice to show them the Friendship Tapestry and we took a good time looking at each piece.  We had such a wonderful time talking and laughing all evening.
Thank you for visiting, it was so great!

August

Anya Haldorson Gray (piece nr. 37) and her son Alex from
Georgia, came for a visit. We had a great day! And found out that we are related!!  It is a few generations back, but still it was really fun to find new relatives :-)

Thank you for coming! It was very precious to get to know you.
 Hope to see you again!

September

It is already autumn here in the north. The beautiful colors are surrounding us and make us forget about the cold. These colors give endless ideas to stitch...

This picture was taken at Ţingvellir on a sunny day in the beginning of September.
We are now preparing for exhibitions around the world. It takes time but all information will be here on this page as things develop. If you have any ideas or want to help, please contact us at  friendshiptapestry@internet.is
We look forward to share the energy of friendship, beauty and peace around the globe...

October

It is already winter here in the northern hemisphere, getting colder and the days are getting shorter. But I hear from our friends in Australia that it is spring there now with beautiful flowers blooming and the weather getting warmer again.  This is our planet, so full of extreems. And this is the planet we are preparing to travel with the tapestry. We are looking for possible sponsors and it takes time. We are hoping that the first trip will be early next spring! Preparations have started in quite a few places, for exhibiting the Friendship Tapestry. Send your good thoughts our way and we will let you know as soon as something is certain. I have a feeling we might have news very soon....

November

Big news!!

The first exhibition outside of Iceland is right around the corner!
We will be at Nordic Needle in Fargo, North Dakota in March 9 – 12 2006!

As I told you in the beginning, we want to travel and show the beauty of stitches and the beauty of friendship and hope for peace the FriendshipTapestry displays. And now we are going to our first exhibition outside of Iceland. In March 9th –12th 2006 we will be at Nordic Needle in Fargo, North Dakota, to exhibit the tapestry!

It was through Nordic Needle that we; Susan, Nancy and I (Ragnhildur “Rags”), got to know one another. Roz and Sue at Nordic Needle have supported our project the whole time both with encouragement and by talking about the Friendship Tapestry in their newsletters. So it is only fitting that we start travelling at their beautiful needlework store in Fargo. They have a Stitching Paradise Needlework Retreat in March 9 – 12, and we will be there!

We are planning and hoping we can go to other places later on, but we don´t have any sponsors yet, so we will see what happens. There are some places that we are working on. We keep hoping and praying. If you have any good ideas about displaying the tapestry or about sponsors, or if you just want to comment or question; don´t hesitate to contact me at our e-mail address: friendshiptapestry@internet.is

If you would like to participate in the tapestry, or if you know of anyone who would like to become a Friendship Tapestry friend, now is the time to start working on your piece (see checklist for further information), we are open for new participants! We would really like the Friendship Tapestry to get even larger before travelling!

If you have a chance to come to Fargo during the exhibition, we would be so happy to see you. I will keep an update under News, on this website, as we go along with the preparations for the exhibition and during the display, so you can at least watch it there.

December

We are very excited about the trip to Fargo in March 2006! After enjoying the display and the Stitching Reatreat Paradise at Nordic Needle in Fargo, North Dakota, we will drive over to Minneapolis and display the tapestry there too! An exhibition in an Art Gallery in Westwood Lutheran Church, St. Louis Park, Minneapolis, Minnesota! More details will be here on the page later.

There are other exhibiton places in working progress now, in several countries around the world. We will put news here as soon as something is decided. It is unbelievable but this is really happening!

Thank you all dear friends all over the world for the interest and willingness to participate in this project of International friendship and needlework. Remember we are still taking in new participants. Everybody is welcome to be a friend and have a piece in the Friendship Tapestry.

Here in the north, we are in the middle of winter. The days get shorter and if it were not for the Christmas lights, it would be really gloomy. The lights and music of the season bring smiles to the heart and make way for the real Christmas spirit to the soul. This precious feeling is beginning to form again, it feels like being reborn every year. I do love this time of year, despite the weather and darkness outside. It just makes the lights seem even brighter, doesn´t it.
